Shepherd Community Center and Near East Area Renewal (NEAR) have partnered together to open a childcare facility in the 46201 zip code. After 6 years of planning, the former IPS School #78, was renovated into a first of its kind facility for the state of Indiana. The Minnie Hartmann Center hosts 10 classrooms, gym, playground, and other facilities that make up the childcare wing in addition to 64 rooms of affordable senior adult housing. This design was created to encourage intergenerational interaction featuring shared spaces where both generations could interact in scheduled activities, as well as through informal encounters.

All families who have a child enrolled in the Shepherd Neighborhood Childcare at Minnie Hartmann will be a part of the Shepherd Community Family and have the same access to programs as the main campus of Shepherd Community Center. Located just blocks away from Minnie Hartmann, Shepherd is a beacon of hope in your neighborhood and strives to help your family be successful through access to quality programming and resources to meet your family’s physical, emotional, spiritual, and academic needs.
